Russian State University of Tourism and Service (RSUTS) was founded in 1952 as a Higher School of handicraft cooperation. During its more than a half of a century history, the University has become a leader among the Russian higher educational institutions, which prepare professionals in the field of services and tourism industry.
RSUTS is a main methodological center of service and tourism curriculum design which leads and unites educational institutions of Russian Federation specializing in tourism and service training. The Union consists of 267 universities and colleges.
RSUTS is a very large and modern University in Russia. It has 7 departments and 15 branches. The departments are: Economics Department, Service Department, Law and Social Studies Department, Technology and Design Department, Tourism and Hospitality Department. The other two are Moscow Region Service Departments in Lubertsy and Podolsk RSUTS has a wide chain of branches. In addition to that there are "Institute of Service, and Institute of Tourism and Hospitality, located in Moscow city. The University is represented by its branches in Smolensk, Kaliningrad, Samara, Volgograd, Sochi, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Pyatigorsk, Yakutsk, Perm, Ekaterinburg, Makhachkala, Kazan, Erevan. Teaching staff numbers around 2 710 people, 1 511 of them have a scientific degree or an academic status: doctors and professors.
The University delivers multilevel education in the field of tourism and service industries that consists of four steps of studies towards degrees. These are: -vocational education (2-3 years); -higher professional education: bachelor (4 years), specialist (5 years); -postgraduate education: master (2 years) and PhD; -vocational training and retraining for professionals. RSUTS allows students to choose from the following education forms: full time, part time and distant learning. Today there are about 47000 students from Russian Federation as well as students from the former Soviet Union countries and overseas. Including 21000 full time students, 25000 part time students and 1000 students on distant learning.

Postgraduate education The University has seven boards that approve post-graduate degrees presented in the fields of technologies studies, economics, social studies and philosophy. The Post-graduate Department numbers 255 PhD students at the moment.

University’s scientific life The University’s Central Scientific and Research Institute includes 16 basic laboratories focusing on fundamental and applied researches in economics and technologies relating to the industry of tourism and service; Branch-applied Interregional Technology Transfer Center uniting 7 core institutions aiming at solving major scientific and technical problems in the industry of tourism and service through the rapid implementation of the research results; Scientific journals Service Plus, Bulletin of The Association of the Institutes of Tourism and Service, Current Problems in Tourism and Service, Electrotechnical Complexes and Systems, Service in Russia and Abroad widely covering the achievements of the University’s scientific and research activities; Youth Scientific Society and Students’ Clubs
Students‘s life Students participate in different clubs and unions: a fashion theater, drama clubs, a vocal studio, dancing group and break-dance studio, stand-up comedy club and many more. RSUTS pays a lot of attention to sports. University teams have won a lot of prizes in many national and international tournaments, as for example in basketball, softball, rugby and others.
RSUTS' international cooperation In order to meet the Bologna standards RSUTS boosts up academic and student mobility by organizing training programs in overseas universities and colleges for professors and students. There are more than 1800 international students studying in the University. These are young people from Commonwealth of Independent States and from foreign countries: China, Korea, Nepal, Vietnam, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Chad, Congo, Nigeria, Sudan, Cameroon, and Ethiopia.
